History
1874 The Mitsui Clan acquires the cornice horizontal pit (Jabarabira-koh) at Kamioka mine and begins mining operations.
1892 The Mitsui Mining Limited Partnership is established.
1911 Mitsui Mining Co., Ltd. is founded.
1913 The Omuta Zinc Smelter begins operations.
1928 The Hikoshima Zinc Smelter (currently Hikoshima Smelting Co., Ltd.) is acquired from Suzuki Shoten.
1943 The electrolytic zinc plant at the Kamioka Mine and Smelter (currently Kamioka Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd.) is completed.
The Hibi Copper Smelting Plant (currently Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co., Ltd.) and Takehara Refinery plant (currently Takehara Refinery) are acquired from Showa Mining Co., Ltd.
1950 Mitsui Mining Co., Ltd. spins off its metals division to create Kamioka Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. (the company's former name).
1951 The Tokyo laboratory (currently Corporate R&D Center) is established.
1952 The company is renamed Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd.
1962 Ohji Metals Co., Ltd. and Showa Die-cast Co., Ltd. are incorporated into the Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd.
The Rolled Copper Division (currently the Rolled Copper & Zinc Division) and the Die-Casting Division (currently the Die-Casting Division and the Automotive Parts & Components Division) are established.
1967 Hachinohe Smelting Co., Ltd. is founded.
1968 Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co., Ltd. is founded.
1976 Oak-Mitsui Inc. is founded.
1980 Mitsui Metal Foil Co., Ltd. and Sankin Rare Earth Co., Ltd. are incorporated into the Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd.

The Miike Rare Metal Plant is established.
Taiwan Copper Foil Co., Ltd. is established.
1982 A company-wide division system is adopted.
The Copper Foil Division (currently the Copper Foil Sector) is established.
1986 The catalyst division is established.

Mitsui Kinzoku Perlite Co., Ltd., Dicalite Orient Co., Ltd., and Tokyo Koukyu Rozai (T.K.R.) Co., Ltd. are incorporated into the company, and Perlite Division and the TKR Division (currently ceramics Division) are established.
A new corporate symbol is adopted and the corporate name is standardized as "Mitsui Kinzoku".

1995 Mitsui Siam Components Co., Ltd. and Mitsui-Huayang Automotive Components Co., Ltd. are established.
1998 Mitsui Copper Foil (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. is founded.
1999 Mitsui Components Europe Ltd. is founded.
The Head Office is moved to Osaki, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo.
2000 Mitsui Electronic Materials Co., Ltd. is founded in Taiwan.
Pan Pacific Copper Co., Ltd. is founded as a joint investment with Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd.
2001 Mitsui Copper Foil (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. is founded.
The Environmental Engineering Sector (currently Metals, Minerals & Environmental Engineering Sector) is established.

MS Zinc Co., Ltd. is founded as a joint investment with Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd.

Mitsui Kinzoku Korea Co., Ltd. is established.
2006 The Palka mine (Peru) begins full-scale operation.
Shanghai Mitsui Xin Yun Precious and Rare Metal Recycle Co., Ltd. is founded.
Mitsui Kinzoku Catalyst Zhuhai Co., Ltd. is founded.
2007 Advanced Sensor Division and China Business are established.
Mitsui Kinzoku (Shanghai) Management Co., Ltd. is established.
