We would like to extend our greetings to all of you who are viewing our website.
Our business environment underwent dramatic changes in 2009 as a result of the global recession. There has been a paradigm shift, in that the focus of the global economy has changed from the leading industrialized countries to the newly emerging economies. Global competition is intensifying, and what were previously considered specialty products are increasingly being categorized as commodity goods. In times like these, it is difficult to predict what will happen next. We will stay sharply focused on changes in our business environment, and will swiftly adapt our management practices to respond to new developments.
Despite such challenging business conditions, the Mitsui Kinzoku Group will continue its efforts to become a corporate group that is capable of achieving sustainable growth irrespective of business circumstances. To achieve this goal we must view the current dramatic changes in our business environment as an opportunity to transform our own operations. Thus, we must not be satisfied with the status quo, but rather continually work to improve our operations to ensure further innovations and future growth.
We must return to the most basic principle of the manufacturing industry the strengthening of our monozukuri (production) capabilities. We will make unceasing efforts to quickly develop products that precisely meet the needs of customers in a rapidly changing market. We remain committed to maintaining a high level of quality as we work to curb production costs to ensure competitiveness and speedily deliver these products to our customers. Through swift decision-making, we will continue concentrating and streamlining business operations. Simultaneously, we will work to develop next-generation products and pursue growth opportunities through the creation of differentiated products. In this way, we will continue to clarify the future direction of the Mitsui Kinzoku Group.
We have specified as our priority business domains nonferrous metal resources, the environment, energy and recycling, and will undertake operation centered on the following business segments: engineered materials, metals, minerals and the environment engineering, electronic materials.
In the electronics materials and engineered materials business, which includes copper foil and battery materials, we will strengthen our development capabilities and logistics network to create and deliver to customers new products that precisely meet their needs. In our metals, minerals and environment engineering business, we will make a significant contribution to the creation of a recycling-oriented society, principally through the recycling of nonferrous metals, including rare metals. The diversification of raw materials is also a contributing factor.
At Mitsui Kinzoku, a company which has its roots in the excavation of underground resources, we have positioned the preservation of the natural environment as a priority management issue. In line with this policy, we are undertaking various initiatives to preserve the environment, conserve energy and reduce CO2 emissions in all aspects of our business operations.
Mitsui Kinzoku aims to be an indispensable presence in society, based on its management policy of striving to achieve creation and progress. We seek to contribute to society with valuable products, and to achieve consistent development and growth. We intend to adhere to this policy going forward, as we continue to make progress. We hope that you will continue to give your guidance and support to the Mitsui Kinzoku Group.
