Zinc is one of the basic materials of industries, and is being used in diverse applications such as plating, alloys, synthetic chemical products and die-cast products. Mitsui Kinzoku has achieved excellent productivity through its development of refining technologies over the past century, and has established itself as the leading manufacturer in the domestic market. Our refineries are located at Kamioka (Gifu), Hachinohe (Aomori), Hikoshima (Yamaguchi) and Miike (Fukuoka), and all featuring substantial manufacturing systems. |

As with zinc, copper is a basic material for industries that has found widespread application in wires, electronic components and processed products. The copper business is currently being operated by Pan Pacific Copper Co., Ltd., which was established in October 2000 in an alliance with Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd. The complete system covers everything from copper material procurement to manufacture and sales, and has been established at Pan Pacific Copper Co., Ltd.. Precious metals such as gold and silver are also being produced as copper byproducts.

Mitsui Kinzoku recovers and recycles useful metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium from waste electronic instruments and circuit-boards, and also recycles lead from used batteries. The Company has also processed recycled lead and zinc and sold them as synthetic chemical products. All of these initiatives have earned high marks as technologies necessary for a recycling society built on environmental conservation and effective resource use.

Resources development technologies, regarded as the starting point of Mitsui Kinzoku, have produced favorable results in the development of numerous mines over the long history of the Company, both in Japan and overseas. Our Huanzala Mine and Palka Mine in Peru, which produce zinc ore, are among the few examples of overseas mines developed and operated by a Japanese company. Resources development technologies are being applied to resource recycling and other environmental businesses, and their importance has continued to grow as technologies to support the effective use of the planet¡Çs resources. |
