The PVD Materials Division manufactures a number of different sputtering target materials. Target materials of different compositions to suit diverse purposes are being handled, including ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) that provides materials for the transparent conductive film used in liquid crystal panels and plasma panels, as well as magnetic disk, magnetic head, optical recording media and thermal head. Production bases have been built in Taiwan and South Korea in addition to domestic facilities, and an impressive market share has been attained especially for ITO.

Perlite is a product made from natural rock named pearlstone. The material rock is crushed, heated and expanded to form porous particles, which are useful for many purposes. The material has been used as a fire-resistant and heat-insulating wall material, detergent and oil absorber, soil improvement material for horticulture, and filter medium, and has helped preserve a sound living and natural environment. As a material derived from nature, perlite is an environmentally friendly product.

We have extensive experience with lining materials in firing furnaces for ceramics used with electronic devices. Our Metal Filter removes impurities from molten aluminum and has found application worldwide, contributing to the manufacture of aluminum cans for drinks. |

Using copper, zinc and their alloys as material, the company manufactures rolled copper and zinc products by processing them into plates and coils. These products are used in a variety of applications ranging from general everyday products to industrial uses including electrode materials, roofing materials and anti-corrosion materials, and have received high acclaim. Its highly electroconductive and workable brass strips are the market share leader in Japan. In July 2010, established as the result of a business merger with Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., Mitsui Sumitomo Metal Mining Brass & Copper Co., Ltd., is aggressively expanding its business with the goal of becoming the leader in Asia in the brass business.

Tape Automated Bonding (TAB) tape and Chip On Film (COF) tape for mounting on semiconductors, are principally used to implement driver ICs onto liquid crystal, PDP and other types of thin panels. Mitsui Kinzoku's tape products feature high productivity and quality, and have attained industry-leading market shares. Our Group company, MCS, Inc. is in charge of manufacturing and inspecting these tape products, with operations in Yamaguchi, Fukuoka and Saitama Prefectures. |
