Takehara Refinery is notable for the high rate at which it is able to reclaim precious metals. It also has facilities for the recovery of other metals such as tin and antimony and is able to recover metals from low-grade materials that contain impurities which is difficult for other companies to process.

Smelting of both zinc and lead is conducted concurrently at the Hachinohe Smelting Co. in a blast furnace using ISP methodology.
Various recyclable materials and industrial waste materials are processed by drawing on the advantages available from ISP methodology, which can be made to be compatible with a large variety of raw materials. The constituent metals contained in these materials, such as zinc and lead, are recovered as bullion and the other components are rendered as slag and made into products.
