Oxides/Rare Earth Compounds
Nippon Yttrium Co., Ltd. (NYC) offers a wide variety of rare earth oxides and rare earth compounds, including yttrium oxide, which was first mass-produced and refined in Japan.
We propose the best products to meet the various requirements of our customers, including electronic materials, medical, and semiconductor applications.
Types of Rare Earth Oxides and Rare Earth Compounds
-
Standard Products
Characteristics/Applications
Rare earth oxides and rare earth compounds are used in a wide range of applications, including phosphors, optical glasses, ceramics, single crystals, and chemical products. High-purity products containing fewer transition elements such as iron are also available.
Physical Properties
- Particle size distribution D50%:3~4µm
- Specific Surface Area (BET method):2~4㎡/g
- Loss on Ignition (L.O.I):< 0.5%
-
Fine-grained Products (High BET)
Characteristics/Applications
An oxide suitable for adding to ceramics. The product is highly reactive as it consists of small primary particles and thus has high-specific surface area.
Physical Properties
- Particle size distribution D50%:0.5~2µm
- Primary particle size:Several 10 - 100 nm
- Specific Surface Area (BET method):10~25㎡/g
- Loss on Ignition (L.O.I):< 2.0%
-
Granules (Spherical)
Characteristics/Applications
Spherical granulated powder with good flowability suitable for CIP molding/sintered bodies and thermal spraying. It can also be used as a fine-grained oxide easy to be handled because it has fine primary particle size.
Physical Properties
- Particle size:30~60µm
- Primary particle size:Sub-micron
Standard Products

NYC handles a variety of rare earth oxides including yttrium oxide. Y2O3 are used as a base material for phosphors, as well as Eu2O3 and Tb4O7 as activators, Sm2O3, Nd2O3, and Dy2O3 are used as magnetic materials, and Gd2O3 is used in nuclear power generation. High-purity products containing fewer transition elements such as iron are also available.

Fine-grained Products (High BET Products)

NYC manufactures high-purity, fine-grained products with a large specific surface area. These products are suitable for use in ceramics, and are highly reactive as they consist of small primary particles, thus having a high-specific surface area.
Our standard lineup of yttrium oxide includes two types: one with a specific surface area of 10-13㎡/g and the other with a specific surface area of 20-25㎡/g.
Other oxides are also available in purities (TREO) ranging from 99.9 to 99.999%, as well as fine particles of 1 µm or less, so please feel free to contact us for more information.

Granule Products (Spherical)

Rare earth oxide granules are mainly used for CIP molding/sintered bodies and thermal spraying because of their high flowability and formability. In the case of yttria-based granule products in particular, we have various product grades such as yttrium oxide granules (Y2O3), yttrium aluminate granules (Y-Al-O), and yttrium oxyfluoride granules (Y-O-F) that meet customers' objectives.
Major applications include thermal spray materials and sintered materials for semiconductor manufacturing equipment that requires plasma resistance.

Examples of Composite Oxides
We can offer a variety of composite oxides to suit specific applications and meet the requirements of our customers. For example, composite oxides mixed with Si-based materials are used in the development of heat-resistant materials. We can also handle co-precipitates of rare earths, so please feel free to contact us for more information.

Examples of High Purity Oxides
High-purity Lanthanum Oxide(La2O3)
This product is a high-purity lanthanum oxide in which impurity elements that show optical absorption are reduced to the utmost limit. In particular, Ce and Fe are less than one-tenth of standard product level, making this product suitable for high-end optical applications.
High-purity Gadolinium Oxide (Gd2O3)
This is a high-purity gadolinium oxide product with ultra minimal radioactive impurities (U, Th etc.) and other rare earths (Eu etc.). It is suitable for special optical applications that are affected by noise due to radioactive elements, or for medical applications (scintillators, contrast media etc.) that have strict specifications for impurities. Powder properties can be controlled, and various salts are also available upon request.
